I am a qualified Counsellor, fully accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I abide by their professional code of conduct and work to their ‘Ethical Framework for Counsellors’: www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework
I have practised as a therapist for over 20 years, working with a wide range of clients.
I have practised as a therapist for over 20 years, working with a wide range of clients.
I am trained in the psychodynamic method of therapy which is a mixture of counselling and a psychoanalytic approach. Much of what troubles us today comes from our early past experiences and it can be helpful to make the links between those past events and our current difficulties. In this way the client can come to terms with the past and difficulties may cease or become lessened to a manageable level.
It may be that a client does not wish to revisit the past. My method of working is client led which means I also work in a flexible way depending on the issues the client brings to therapy. For instance it may be useful to introduce structured work to include elements of Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR) is another form of therapy often used for shorter term work. It can work particularly well with trauma and anxiety. EMDR aims to replicate the eye movements made during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the phase in the sleep cycle when events of the day are processed and stored in memory. When events are processed correctly, emotions that are associated with them should fade away.
I offer Walk and Talk sessions (weather permitting) from both my clinic locations, which are situated close to parks. Clients sometimes find that a gentle walk in the fresh air can help them relax.
I explore the options together with my clients and we work together to find the best approach.
Standard sessions are 1 hour.

I have worked with Victim Support as a counsellor for seven years, specialising in domestic violence and sexual abuse for both female and male victims.
I also have extensive experience of working with traumatised clients within a mental health rehabilitation centre in London. This complex work involves many issues common to all of us - in particular bereavement, relationship issues, loss of status in life, loss of self-esteem, loss, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. I also have a deep understanding of other cultures and work well with interpreters.
I have worked with NHS clients as part of the IAPT scheme for the past two and a half years.
As part of their training counsellors are required to undergo personal therapy which means we know what it is like to sit in the client’s chair.
As a fully accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I am committed to their code of conduct and continuing professional development. I attend workshops and seminars in order to keep up to date with the latest therapeutic thinking.
I have regular clinical supervision which is a professional requirement. This means that I will discuss your case but that your identity would not be revealed.
I hold professional indemnity insurance.
My privacy statement is available should we decide to work together. This covers my responsibilities as to how I handle and store your personal information. I conform fully with current data protection requirements and am registered with the Information Commissioners Office.
